Upcoming Changes to DVSA Driving Test Deadlines – Effective April 2025

Learner drivers and instructors, take note! The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced an important change to the deadline for modifying or cancelling practical driving tests, which will come into effect from 8 April 2025.

What’s Changing?

Currently, you must give 3 full working days’ notice if you need to change or cancel your driving test. However, from 8 April 2025, this notice period will increase to 10 full working days. This means that if you wish to make any changes to your test date or cancel it without losing your fee, you’ll need to act much earlier than before.

Why is the DVSA Making This Change?

The DVSA aims to reduce the number of late cancellations and ensure that cancelled test slots can be reallocated to other learners waiting for a test. This is part of a broader effort to tackle long waiting times and make the testing process more efficient for everyone.

What You Need to Do

  1. Check Your Emails – The DVSA has already begun updating some test deadlines ahead of the official change. If you have a test booked, keep an eye on your emails for any updates regarding your test date and modification deadlines.
  2. Plan Ahead – If you think you might need to change or cancel your test, don’t leave it until the last minute. Remember, from April 2025, you’ll need to give 10 working days’ notice.
  3. Stay Informed – Visit the official DVSA page here to keep up with the latest updates.
